2022-23 Beavers

The SEMHL added 3 new teams from the folded Carillon league: Ste. Anne (who would win) , Ile des Chenes & Red River out of St. Jean.

Our year did not look very bright with just 9 returning players from previous year. All the vets retired or moved onto other teams    ( Lewy to Winkler, Besty to Warren & Maloney to Notre Dame) leaving the old guys being Brett Takvam and Jack Lotscher. But Coach Klassen was busy all summer rounding up another 9 to add to the new faces at camp. We had a team!

President Young shocked everyone when he released perennial All Star Steve Christie to go with 2 Carman raised goalies in the  returning Rocky and adding Luke Zacharias who had played in Altona last year. It would be a questionable decision but one met with favourable response in the dressing room. On the ice though it resulted in a 7.50 G.A. team avg. In support of the tenders, defence was a problem many nights with forwards having to play back. The postion got much better with late additions.

Upfront throughout the year we had at least 3 players in the top 10 scoring with the line of import Tanner Mole, Ben Dalke and Fraser Mirlees leading the way for the Beavers all 18 games. These guys and all the new players worked their butts off to become a unified group and had some close games but in the end finished 4-14 for 9th out of 10 teams and no playoffs.

One constant thing was the comradery in the dressing room and the fun these guys had win or lose. Cribbage was the highlight after home games with almost all players taking a turn (some just learning the game) to win the Championship.
