Carman Beavers 2012-13 Season

Coming off a quarter final loss to Plum Coulee 3 games to 1, coupled with the fact the 50th Anniversary was cancelled due to a lack of registration, the summer was long..especially for management! Once September rolled around it was time to shake it off and begin to fill some holes on and off the ice.

Pat Power retired as Coach but his asst. Kris Menard agreed to be Head Coach leaving the asst. spot vacant. Ron Rankin too retired after 12 seasons as Equipment/Trainer, the 50/50 volunteers called it quits, the P.A. announcer moved away, imports and SEMHL All Stars Cliff Ketchen/Dan Boheimer retired and so on and so on! G.M. Young took out an ad in the Leader asking for help and actually got some. Dr Aaron Snidal stepped up to be Trainer while Alumni Aaron Nakonechny and wife Sheena offered to sell 50/50. Tyler King offered to announce the home games and do other assigned duties behind the scenes. Things were looking great off ice now!!

On the ice, several locals returned to their home town and the Beavers. Aaron Lewadnuik & Mark Owen made the loss of the afore mentioned imports much less painful plus Troy O'Brien & Shane Walker solidified the D. G.M. Young signed goalie Max Desjardins and centre Dan Leslie ( former Oakville Seal ) as this year's imports. We were ready for the ex. season and won in Notre Dame with Owen showing what was to come goal scoring wise. Dr. Snidal showed his skills as well, stitching Jesse Vanderveen's chin in the lobby!

As the season jumped out of the gate, Lewy, Owen & Leslie formed the 1st line and rightfully so. After the first quarter of the schedule, all 3 were in the top 5 even as the team struggled to put wins up. The club went from 1st place to 4th to last and back to 5th but with only 2-4 points at any one time between them and 2nd spot. The league was tight other than Altona & Morden who held 1 & 2 spots most of the winter.

Midway in the schedule, Young released goalie Desjardins and made Gav Callum #1 again. In that import spot came Brett Chartier on D. With year ending injuries to O'Brien and Mike Weir, the back end was a real concern and excuse used for the poor game outcomes. The 1st line cont'd to rack up points without any secondary help but team wise, things improved heading into the playoffs, winning 3 straight as the club hung on to 5th , staying ahead of Notre Dame & Plum Coulee.

Playoffs began with a win versus Stonewall in O.T. then duplicated that with yet another! Up 2-0 in a best of 5 looked promising. Not! The Flyers won the next 3 and that was it for Carman.

Season bright spots were Lewy making 1st All Star Team, winning the scoring race with 45 points and being voted SEMHL MVP. Sadly Mark grabbed 4th spot in the scorng race and had 21 goals but never got voted to a Team!

The windup was at the bar for supper prior to heading over to Alumni Brian Whitehead's social.
