2011/2012 Beavers

CARMAN BEAVERS 2011-2012

What started out a tad scary for bodies, turned out really well as for this season. We had lost 5 to retirement but once camp rolled around, some former Cougars took their turns learning Senior hockey and it benefited them and the Beavs. Pat Power quit as coach so import Cliff Ketchen took the offer to be head coach with Kris Menard returning as the asst..

Ex. games were split with Red River Wild of the Carilon League W7-6 and L 2-1 Notre Dame. But those games were needed to see if our new youngsters could handle the SEMHL pace. We lost the season opener to Morden with their soon to be league scoring champ Jay Fehr back from his hockey tours. The Beavs got even with a nice 8-5 win over visiting Altona during the 50th season puck dropping. Lots of Alumni showed to watch and participate. Tom Rockey dropped the ceremonial puck between Frank McKinnon and Gladwyn Scott.

The club split the next 2 with the Hawks 5-4 W with Nathan Yeo's first SEMHL start and Dan Bohiemer's 4 goals were not enough in a Morden 9-6 L. In a penalty filled contest, 185 pim, Plum Coulee nipped Gav Callum and his teamates 5-4. Disapline would be a problem for the remainder of the year as well.

In a home/home series vs Notre Dame, Carman were losers in both games! To add insult to that, Ketchen was injured and would be out ofr a month. A bright spot however was the play of Josh Pfrimmer, showing a nack to score and fore check as well. With another loss to add to that against Stonewall , Dan got 3 more tallies,  plus one more in each column before Xmas and our record was 3-6 going into the break. That break was not beneficial as we lost 12-3 in Stonewall on Dec 30th.

January saw the boys relax and play some Alumni hockey in the 50th tournament. Five teams played 2 games on Sat followed by a another group of Alumni playing Jet Oldtimers, including Mark Chipman, on Sunday. It was a blast for Alumni and the fans alike.

After a 6-3 loss to Xpress, the Beavers ran off 5 in a row....3 from behind.  There was  an 8-6 over  Warren, 4-3  vs  Altona and 4-3 OT win vs Flyers. We were now 9-11-0-1 as of regular season end. Just 19 points but only 4 behind 4th! The playoffs pitted us against Plum Coulee.

But before that could start, there was hardware to present. Carman's Boheimer was voted SEMHL MVP by the teams after finishing just 1 point back of Fehr for the scoring title as well. He obviously was named 1st team All- Star and Cliif made 2nd team. Dan ended with 59 points ( 25+ 34 ) and Cliff had 34 pts. in just 13 games!

The 2 teams split the first 2 contests 7-1 L and 7-4 W which saw 5 unanswered Carman goals inc. 2 on the PP by Stewy Thiessen. A heartbreaker all  but sealed the deal for Coulee. Carman tied it up with 3 goals in 6 minutes, Dan and Kirk Young x 2 ) but lost in OT!!! A dominent player for Xpress was Anders Strome who played for the Beavs whilde Cliff was hurt. The final game was a 4-0 shutout on the road.

Windup and awards followed later into April.
