1953/1955 Beavers

 THE TEAMS 1953-1955

Thanks to Tom Rockey and the Dufferin Leader , we are now able to add these 3 years ( 1939, 1954 & 1955 ) to our Carman Beaver named team's history. Up until then, not much was known about previous Carman teams except what pictures still hung at the rink. One being the 1939 Carman Beaver Intermediate Champions with Ralph Mogk and Jim McFadden. Previous to that I have seen a picture of the Carman Shamrocks with Howard Billing as goalie.
So it goes Carman joined the SEMHL in 1953 after 14 years without a club, a league as of 2020 this league would be 60+ years running and be the oldest continually running league in Canada...at least no one has said different.
Tom's story goes that as he was a returning pro, Carman could play in the league but could not record any wins/points. So hence 0-20 for 2 years he recalls. Alas since that info from Tom, stats have been uncovered showing 4 wins in 53/54, 1 in 54/55 and 0 in 55/56. Also he mentioned Carman folded in 55/56 after 4 games which the Leader proved correct.
Tom provided his recollection of the starting lineup for the first year but according to the Leader it was: :Goal: Norm Langston ; Defence: Jim Grundy, Earl Garnett , Walt Banting and Tom ; Forwards: Allan Patterson, Reg Uyllott , Bob McGowen, Jack Hetherington , Jack Fuller , Don Jefkins,Bobby Lees and Ron Foster; Manager Fred Garnet and Coach Tom Rockey. The roster changed weekly as bodies were added and subtracted so see the lists below.

According to Dufferin Leader reports the name Beavers was not used until the 1954-55 season. Prior to that it they were called the Carman Intermediates. The team then folded after just 4 games into the 1955-56 season.
